Washington’s Abdul Gaddy Nails Half Court Shot to Force Overtime in Spain (VIDEO)
Last season, Washington became the first Pac 12 regular season champion to miss the NCAA Tournament since the 1950s.
The mark, which obviously was long-standing prior to the 2011-12 season, showed the disappointment and the overall down year that the conference suffered.
Huskies’ guard Abdul Gaddy has spent the past three seasons contributing in Washington’s back court, and looking forward to the 2012-13 season, there’s only one more go-around for the 6-foot-3 in-state star.
The Huskies are currently on a foreign exhibition tour in Europe and on Wednesday night, video surfaced from one Washington’s overseas contests, and it included the senior guard converting on one, big shot.
With his team trailing by three, Gaddy took the inbounds pass and pushed two dribbles up the left side of the court before letting it fly.
Well what do you know, there was drama in Spain, as Gaddy nailed the shot from just beyond half court, sending the exhibition into overtime. UW ended up winning the contest by a final score of 74-73 over Zaragoza.
As you can tell in the video below, it doesn’t appear that there is even one fan at the game. In fact, Gaddy’s teammates celebrated the shot, but clearly not what you expect from a half court buzzer beater to force overtime. It’s a shame they couldn’t get Gus Johnson on the call.
Well regardless, Gaddy converted and the Huskies went on to win the contest, something head coach Lorenzo Romar should be pleased about.
With one more season left, Gaddy looks to build off his 8.1 points and 5.2 assists per game numbers from last season.
Here is the footage of Gaddy’s half court buzzer beater:
