Another Top Recruit For N.C. State, Kyle Washington Pops for Wolfpack

North Carolina State head coach Mark Gottfried continues to get it done.

Just days after the university announced a six-year contract extension for Gottfried, 2013 forward Kyle Washington became the latest to join the program. Washington’s prep school coach, Jason Smith, tweeted the news early Sunday morning.

At 6-foot-9, Washington is an original native of Champlin, Michigan, but he currently attends Brewster Academy (NH). The verbal commitment marks the second consecutive year that Gottfried has been able to land a Brewster product. Incoming freshman T.J. Warren was a top-100 recruit from the class of 2012.

Washington’s decision comes just one week after Anthony Barber verbally pledged to the Wolfpack. Barber, a 6-foot-2 guard, is widely considered as one of the top prospects at his position. As for Washington, ESPN labels the forward at No. 66 overall, while Rivals pins him at No. 96.

Prior to his decision, Washington had been receiving plenty of attention from a number of high-major programs. After visiting Baylor last weekend, Washington popped for the Wolfpack during a trip to the Raleigh campus. The forward had also scheduled trips to Washington, Ohio State, and Iowa State prior to committing.

Originally a member of the class of 2012, Washington’s decision to prep this upcoming season has certainly paid off dividends for himself and the Wolfpack. N.C. State remains in the mix for a number of other top recruits, including one of the nation’s top targets, Julius Randle.

ESPN lists Washington as 16th best power forward in the class.
