Change of Plans: Former Central Michigan Pledge Austin Torres Commits to Notre Dame
Following a visit to Central Michigan last weekend, 2013 forward Austin Torres pledged his verbal commitment to the Chippewas on Sep. 24.
Following a surprise scholarship offer from the Fightin’ Irish, Torres reconsidered his options, decommitted from Central Michigan this past Friday before once again making a collegiate decision.
On Monday evening, Torres made the announcement to follow his high school teammate to South Bend, verbally committing to Notre Dame.
Torres stands at 6-foot-7 and had been receiving interest from a number of area mid-major programs. His decision gives the Irish their second commitment within the past week and their fourth overall from the class of 2013.
Torres will join Jackson, V.J. Beachem and Steve Vasturia in South Bend next season.
While the latest addition in Torres’ recruitment not only gives him the opportunity to compete at a high-major level, but also follow his good friend and high school teammate. As for Jackson, well he is the crown jewel for Brey and the Irish. Rivals ranks Jackson at No. 27 overall within the class of 2013.
The scholarship extension and commitment paves the way for Torres to follow his family’s past and continue his basketball career at the next level. Both of Torres’ parents attended Notre Dame, as did his grandfather.
