The University of Delaware men’s and women’s basketball teams will kick off the 2012-13 season with Blue Hens Madness on Friday, October 12. The annual event will be held at the Bob Carpenter Center. After the doors open at 6:45PM and the event begins at 7:30PM, fans will have the opportunity to personally meet the members of this seasons’ Blue Hen roster.
Last season, the Blue Hens earned an overall 18-14 record, finishing 12-6 in the CAA. Good enough for 5th in the Conference standings, the Blue Hens also saw some very encouraging progress from big man Jamelle Hagins, and guards Devon Saddler and Javaris Threatt. Now, Delaware is ready to prove last season wasn’t a one-year wonder and further move up the conference ranks.
But, before they can handle their business on the court, they will have a very eventful evening in mid October. In the BCC, not only will the Blue Hens players be featured, but also a very heart-arming charity event. Students and fans will be encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the event as well. All items will be donated to the Delaware Food Bank. The Food Bank, located in Milford, Delaware, can be dated back to 1977, when the organization began as a food closet at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
The event will also feature special player introductions of this winter’s Blue Hen men’s and women’s basketball teams, performances by the UD cheerleaders, dance team, pep band and YoUDee, a high-flying performance by the Air Elite Dunk Team, and intrasquad team scrimmages. The event will also feature special programming for fans to team up with players in skills challenges.
The first 1,000 fans to arrive will receive complimentary blue and yellow glowstick glasses. Blue Hen basketball season ticket holders will receive team posters and spirit buttons as well.
