JUCO Star Chris Thomas Back on the Market After Decommitting From Xavier
It hasn’t been the greatest month for Xavier and head coach Chris Mack.
After the loss of star wing Dezmine Wells, who ended up at Maryland after being expelled from the university, the Musketeers are now losing JUCO transfer, Chris Thomas. This all comes in addition to the loss of two incoming recruits (Myles Davis and Jalen Reynolds) who were deemed ineligible, the loss of Mark Lyons to transfer (Arizona) and of course the brawl against Cincinnatijust last season.
News surfaced on Sunday afternoon that Thomas, one of the top junior college prospects in the country, had decommitted from the Musketeers.
The latest switch is just another change of direction for Thomas who has been well traveled recently. However, his talent level and shooting ability is undeniable, which is why many top recruiting services are labeling him among some of the top targets within the class of 2013.
An original native of Colorado, Thomas began his career at Montbello (CO), but never played a game before transferring to Princeton Day Academy (MD). Following that stop, Thomas then appeared set to head to Westwind Prep (AZ), but ultimately ended his high school playing days at South Kent Prep (CT).
Thomas then enrolled at Chipola Junior College (FL), took classes last year, but did not play. He committed to play for Xavier and coach Mack this past April. However, according to a report by CBSSports‘ Jeff Borzello, Thomas decided to re-open things because he wanted the feeling of being recruited like some of his fellow JUCO teammates.
The 6-foot-5 guard continues to receive high praise from many scouts, but the red flags that are associated with his past and potential eligibility could make some schools pause at recruiting him.
