Why More People Should Get to Know Murray State’s Isaiah Canaan

Brian Spurlock-US PRESSWIRE

The Murray State Racers made some noise last season, by entering the NCAA tournament with a record of 30-1. The Racers were able to get by the Colorado State Rams in the first round, but got beat the very next round by the Marquette Golden Eagles. Well, Murray State’s leading scorer Isaiah Canaan will be back for his senior season and more people should really get to know about him.

Canaan put up huge numbers last season, averaging 19 points per game. This was good enough to make Canaan the 24th highest scorer in the nation. He also put up 3.5 rebounds per game and 3.6 assists per game. Keep in mind that the Racer is only 6’0”.

Canaan manages to be such an elite scorer because he is one of the best shooters in the game. Whether it is inside the perimeter or outside of the arc, Canaan is money from anywhere on the court. His 46.8 percent from the field and 45.6 percent from the three-point line proves this.

Who knows if he will be able to lead Murray State to such a great record in the 2012-13 college basketball season, but he will certainly be one of the highest scorers in the country once again. Canaan definitely received a lot of buzz last season when he helped lead the Racers on such a great run, but he should be in the talks for being one of  the best point guards and players for that matter.

It is really hard to say that there is a better shooter in college basketball than Canaan, but there are so many point guards that get way more hype. Whatever the case, Isaiah Canaan will continue being one of the best shooters and scorers in the game in the upcoming season.
