The North Carolina Tar Heels clearly took a huge hit in the offseason, thanks to the NBA draft. As a result, the Tar Heels will have a completely different team in the 2012-13 college basketball season. However, James Michael McAdoo is returning to the team, and North Carolina’s success starts with him.

Dexter Strickland and Leslie McDonald are both returning to the team after similar injuries, but McAdoo will be the go-to guy for the Tar Heels to start the season.

McAdoo only played 15.6 minutes per game last season. However, he was still able to score 6.1 points per game and grabbed 3.9 rebounds per game. Well, he will be a for sure starter in the upcoming season, which means all three of those numbers will significantly increase.

At 6’9”, McAdoo will be a monster on the boards. He has great athleticism and basketball IQ, which is always a huge plus as a big man. McAdoo might make his living around the basket on offense, but he still manages to rack up the points.

The best part about McAdoo is the fact that he is a great player on the defensive side of the ball, but you can expect that out of a big and athletic body like McAdoo’s.

As a result, the Tar Heel will come up with big stops on defense and hit even bigger shots on offense in the upcoming season. He may have some big shoes to fill, since North Carolina had one of the best front courts in all of college basketball last season, but there will be plenty of talented players alongside McAdoo all season long.
