After tweeting his decision, South Philly’s own John Davis, a 6-6 forward from Neumann-Goretti has accepted a scholarship from the Towson Tigers Monday night, October 16. Davis is widely respected as a ballhawking defender and extremely determined rebounder for a wing player.
Davis, @KhairiDavis, tweeted yesterday evening, “Just committed !!!! #tigergang” followed by a peace-sign hand gesture emoji and a instagrammed photo of himself decked out in Tigers gear.
This past weekend, Davis made his official visit to the school’s Maryland campus. He obviously was impressed with the campus, coaching atmosphere and plans for constructing a new $50 million basketball arena. Thus, right after returning home, He informed Towson coach Pat Skerry and his staff after a team workout, Monday afternoon.
Davis reportedly picked Towson over a bevy of and A-10 and other CAA schools. Among his other choices were Robert Morris, Fordham, Florida Atlantic, Boston University and La Salle.
While Towson hasn’t been historically known for winning, the program has certainly added a piece who knows how to lead while being victorious. Last season, the Philadelphia standout averaged 12.9 points while leading the NG Saints to 28-3 record and second-consecutive state title.
Davis has now joined 6-8 Fishburne Military (Ga.) F Walter Foster and 6-5 South Shore (N.Y.) wing Shamiek Sheppard, a former AAU teammate of Davis’, as the third member of Towson’s 2013 recruiting class thus far.
Davis says he is interested in studying business and sport management.
