What Roddy Peters' Commitment Means For Terps

Last week, Maryland fans were heartbroken when highly recruited twins Andrew and Aaron Harrison picked Kentucky over Maryland. This week however, Terp fans have been rejuvenated due to the commitment made by hometown point-guard Roddy Peters.

It is important to realize that while Peters is not the Harrison twins (he was not ranked top-five in the country and there is only one of him), he is still a four-star recruit who has potential to turn Maryland into a title contender in the next few years.

Peters is a very skilled combo guard, who morphed from a pure scorer into a legitimate floor leader and playmaking point guard who can still score at a high volume. Peters gives Maryland an immense amount of talent at a position which has been somewhat of a hole for the Terps, due to the injury issues of P’Shon Howard.

Another factor that Peters brings to the table is his overall appreciation for Maryland tradition, and the organization as a whole. Roddy Peters is from the area, so he grew up rooting for Juan Dixon and the Terps. Peters told ESPN that he “loves Maryland fans, and I know when I get there it will be my time to shine.”

And shine he will, along with the rest of the highly talented young core that Mark Turgeon has adroitly assembled.

While Peters had always known that Maryland was interested in him, he also knew that they were more interested in the Harrison twins. Rather than being bitter about this, Peters took the Harrison’s decisions to head to Lexington as a “blessing” and he certainly jumped on the opportunity to become Maryland’s point guard of the future.

The Terps may not contend for the National Championship this year, or even the ACC championship, but their core of young players, including Peters and fellow class of 2013 recruit Damonte Dodd, are bound to make Maryland a force to be reckoned with in years to come.
