Fans will now get a chance to walk with the school’s beloved mascot Butler Blue II who is a celebrity in his own right. This will happen prior to a home game at Hinkle Fieldhouse. The tradition at Hinkle is before the team comes out to the court, they pet Blue II on the head.
The winners of these auctions which ended last night at 9 pm ET will be able to hold his leash as the starting lineups are announced during Butler’s exhibitions games on October 27th and November 3rd versus Marian (NAIA) and Indianapolis (D-II).
As of Tuesday afternoon, the highest bid for the Marian game on October 27th was $160 and for the November 3rd game versus Indianapolis the highest bid was $140. But for sure the price has gone up considerably!
I mean who would want to pass up the opportunity to take a picture and hold the leash of Blue II, it’s an honor. The school’s external relations manager Mike Freeman told ESPN.com on Tuesday that “We have that winner come down and meet Blue and get a photo with him.”
All the proceeds from this auction will go towards the program, so this sounds like a really cool auction. As I stated earlier Blue II is a celebrity as he even has his own Twitter.
Blue II is the big dog on campus and in the community. Don’t worry everybody he has a protégé waiting in wings and that is Butler Blue III that is just as cool as him!
