Kentucky Tabbed as Preseason SEC Favorite
Kentucky and head coach John Calipari are out to defend a national championship in 2012-13, but they are also looking to reign supreme within the conference, as well.
On Monday, SEC voters tabbed the Wildcats as the preseason favorite at the league’s annual media day.
With another year on the horizon, Kentucky is welcoming in another crop of newcomers and highly-talented freshmen this season. Headlined by the nation’s top overall recruit, the Wildcats are once again listed among the nation’s elite preseason squads. Nerlens Noel leads the way inside, while fellow freshmen Alex Poythress and Archie Goodwin are expected to join him in the starting lineup.
Sophomore forward Kyle Wiltjer provides the veteran experience, after coming off the bench a season ago. Ryan Harrow sat out all of last season per NCAA rules after transferring from North Carolina State. He will take over the back court duties for UK and believe it or not, Harrow is the first non-freshman point guard to start under Calipari in the last five years.
The conference is welcoming in a pair of newcomers this season in Texas A&M and the aforementioned Tigers.
Here is a look at how the votes stacked up:
