On Monday the 2012-13 NCAA Men’s Basketball preseason All-American team was announced and with that announcement came a few names who everyone knew would be there, and a few surprises who no one really saw coming.
The first name everyone knew about was Indiana sophomore big man Cody Zeller who has his Hooisers ranked number one in the preseason AP and coaches polls, and averaged 15.6 points and 6.6 rebounds a season ago. Zeller was just one vote shy of being unanimous selection.
Next up is Creighton‘s junior forward Doug McDermott who had a tremendous season last year for the Bluejays averaging 22.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. Creighton had an exceptional season last year thanks in large part to McDermott’s fine play and if they want to go even further this season, much of that will fall on his shoulders again.
Ohio State junior forward Deshaun Thomas (15.9 points and 5.4 rebounds), Murray State‘s senior guard Isaiah Cannan (19.0 points per game), LeHigh senior guard C.J. McCollum (21.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game), and Michigan sophomore guard Trey Burker (14.8 points per game) round out the team that had a tie amongst back court players, which is why there are six players on this team instead of just the traditional five.
It will be interesting to see which of these, if any players, will have fine seasons and allow their names to remain amongst the top players in the entire country. The season begins in just a few short days, so keep all of these players in the forefront of your minds.
