Those of us that watch NBA games know that with the name Van Gundy comes a lot of opinion. Jeff Van Gundy has gone from a coach remembered for holding on to his players leg during a brawl to now one of the most popular announcers for NBA games. Now big brother Stan wants in on the action. After two stints of head coaching in the NBA, Miami and Orlando, that ended interestingly Stan Van Gundy is looking to get into announcing.

Van Gundy, known as a constant complainer on the sidelines, will now take his commentary to the airwaves as he gets his first opportunity to announce a game with NBC Sports Network. The Georgetown Hoyas and Florida Gators will get to hear Stan critique how they screen, where they miss defensive assignments and why they should play better defense. It will be interesting to hear the man Shaquille O’Neal once called “the master of panic” be the color commentator during this Hoya vs Gator showdown. The Navy-Marine Corps Classic, taking place on a Navy aircraft carrier, despite the fact that the USS Baton had to go out to sea during hurricane Sandy to avoid damage, is still on for Friday, Nov. 9th, in Jacksonville.

It will be a sight to see as the unheralded Hoyas take on the preseason number 10 Gators, but what is heard will likely be the most entertaining thing of the night. Do not be surprised if you hear Stan Van Gundy’s squeaky voice break once or twice at the shock of seeing a college kid miss a rotation or a referee makes a call that he views incorrectly. In fact, the thing to watch for that night will be if it is the first time a referee gives a technical foul to an announcer for complaining too much. Wonder if Vegas is giving odds?
