The Biggest Game to Watch in College Basketball This Week

Buzzer beaters, storming the court and watching your favorite team win. That is what college basketball is all about. Luckily for people who love those three things, the 2012-13 college basketball season finally starts this week. Although there will be many games to watch, what is the most exciting matchup to kick off the season this weekend?

Sure, fans have been waiting for this week since the final buzzer went off last April, but there will be no colossal matchups in the opening weekend. That does not mean that there will not be great games though. The Florida Gators will be tested in their very first game of the season when they take on the Georgetown Hoyas. Baylor will play the team that broke the Duke Blue Devils’ hearts in Lehigh. However, the best game on paper is the only top 25 matchup of the opening weekend between Syracuse and San Diego State.

A big time school against a mid-major. A team that was No. 1 in the nation for a good part of last year’s season against a team that doesn’t get a whole lot of press outside of the Mountain West.

Syracuse will enter the season by being ranked No. 9, while San Diego State will start off at No. 20. Although this isn’t necessarily a Duke vs. North Carolina classic, it is a big game very early in the season that could decide a lot for both of these teams.

Are the Orangemen as good as they were last season, despite a couple of players going to the NBA? Will the Aztecs set the pace for mid-major teams by knocking off a powerhouse in college basketball? Who knows what the outcome will be, but one thing is for sure and that is that this game is the biggest matchup to watch this week.
