Looks like Briarcrest Christian senior Austin Nichols really liked what he saw and experienced at the Memphis Tigers 2012 Memphis Madness event last month. He received a warm welcome from over 15,000 fans as he entered the FedExForum with his family on that evening. It was also hard to not notice how much support and appreciation the fans have for the Tigers of the past and present.
Over the weekend, the city of Memphis was disappointed about missing out on ESPN 100 post player Devin Williams. However, Nichols, also an ESPN 100 prospect, brought sunshine to a cloudy day in the city with his announcement to become a Tiger.
ESPN lists Nichols at No. 12 overall within the senior class, while Rivals has him at No. 19.
Nichols, a 6’8 power forward, is exactly what the Tigers needed to complement an already loaded 2013 class. The recruiting class features plenty of perimeter players yet needed a post player to complete it.
Nichols is reported to be a fundamentally sound big man who keeps the ball high on the block and off the boards. He can score with his back to the basket, runs the floor very well and can knock down a short jumper.
Nichols become the fourth ESPN 100 recruit for the 2013 class joining No. 27 small forward Kuran Iverson, No. 29 small forward Nick King, and No. 91 point guard Rashawn Powell,
