The Wisconsin Badgers secured their first victory in the Big Ten this season when big time recruit Nigel Hayes committed to the Badgers over Ohio State.

Hayes, a 2013 recruit, is a 6-foot-7 power forward from Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio.

His versatility might be what is most appealing to Bo Ryan and many other coaches.  Hayes will fit into Ryan’s system because he is a hard worker and understands the game.

Hayes can run the floor or post up inside, making him a defensive nightmare for any opponent.  Not only can he catch and shoot, but he has the speed and athleticism to score off of the dribble.  Ryan will have no problem finding a spot for him within the system.

It says a lot about Ryan and his program that Hayes, a Ohio native, chose Wisconsin over Ohio State.  Hayes tweeted that he chose Wisconsin because “They love me.”  That seems to be a good enough reason.

Who wouldn’t love a hard working, smart player that has the athleticism to make a huge impact?

The Big Ten is full of talent this season and Hayes will step in and join the pool of premier players in the league.

This is just another step for Ryan in terms of building a championship program at Wisconsin. Hayes should have a bright future for the Badgers given his on-the-rise stock over the past year or so. With one more season remaining at the high school level it probably isn’t all that farfetched to think that Hayes could be a top-100 prospects when all is said and done.
