Memphis Tigers to Host 2014 NCAA South Regional at FedExForum

Jim Brown-US PRESSWIRE

Things just seem to get better and better for the University of Memphis and the Memphis Tigers basketball program. The Tigers started the season with a preseason ranking of No. 16 in the USA Today Coaches Poll and No. 17 in the AP Top 25. Plus, they are currently No. 2 in the ESPN Class of 2013 basketball rankings.

Now, the NCAA has announced that The University of Memphis has been named the host of the 2014 Division I Men’s Basketball Championships’ South Regional.  The regional will be played at FedExForum March 27-29, 2014.

This will be the sixth time Memphis will play host to an NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship event and the first since the NCAA South Regional was played at FedExForum in 2009.

“We are delighted to have been selected as a host site for the 2014 NCAA Region Finals,” said Memphis Athletics Director Tom Bowen on the Tiger’s athletics site. “The University has served as a host site on numerous occasions for both conference and NCAA events. With a world-class facility in FedExForum and the veteran staff we have in the Memphis athletic department, I am sure that teams selected to come to Memphis will have a great experience.”

The NCAA South Regional will be one of two regionals with Big East ties in 2014. In addition to Memphis playing host to the NCAA South Regional in its first year as a member of the conference, St. John’s Red Storm will co-host the 2014 NCAA East Regional with the Big East Conference at Madison Square Garden.

This will be another opportunity for the Tiger’s basketball program to gain national exposure for their program and their playing facility, FedExForum.
