The North Carolina State Wolfpack defeated the Massachusetts Minutemen tonight in the Puerto Rico Tip-off Semifinals and also won a big time recruiting battle. The Wolfpack were relieved when BeeJay Anya committed to North Carolina State for the 2013-2014 season.
The Wolfpack are extremely talented and a heavy favorite this season. They continued their early season dominance with an easy victory over UMass to advance to the Puerto Rico Tip-off finals against Oklahoma State.
Mark Gottfried continues to get outstanding play from his young players. T.J. Warren, Rodney Purvis and Tyler Lewis have all been a key part to N.C. State’s early season success.
A victory over UMass wasn’t the only thing fans had to cheer about on Friday night. A 6’9″ center from Maryland will be heading to Raleigh next season to play for Gottfried’s squad. BeeJay Anya is the 32nd recruit in the 2013 class according to ESPN. Anya is the third player to sign with the Wolfpack in the ESPN top 100 for the class of 2013.
The Wolfpack picked up a big, big man in Anya. Anya is a 275 pound center who can create space when he wants to, where ever he wants to. He is slimming down a little to get in shape and trying to turn his fat into muscle. When Anya is fully reshaped, he will be a force in the paint.
Anya brings in just what the Wolfpack need for next season. With Purvis and Warren as their two primary scorers as wing men and Lorenzo Brown and Lewis to create plays and pass the rock, a physical big man is all the Wolfpack needed for next year assuming every one returns.
Anya will be joining forces with Anthony Barber and Kyle Washington next season as the big freshmen on campus.
With the addition of Anya and another Wolfpack victory, no N.C. State fan can be upset on this Friday night.
