TCU Horned Frogs: Junior Forward Amric Fields Out With Knee Injury

As if things could not get any worse for first year TCU head coach Trent Johnson it just did as the team is now faced with another devastating injury only three games into the season.

On Thursday night, TCU took on their rival the SMU Mustangs and within 12 seconds of the game, junior forward Amric Fields went down with a right knee injury. Many people in Fort Worth, Texas are saying that this a very bad injury and it happened on a non-contact play. This would be bad news for the Horned Frogs as they have already lost freshman center Aaron Durley to a torn ACL that happened during the first week of practice.

TCU would go on to lose Thursday’s night game to SMU 64-61 but the concern was more on Amric Fields than anything else as head coach Trent Johnson said after the game.

He said “It’s interesting, you know there’s Aaron Durley, and basically he goes down after a day off and a three-man weave with no contact, and then here’s Amric, he cuts across the floor on a shuffle cut and there’s no contact and he goes down.” Both of these key big men for TCU go down on non contact plays which are very scary to see and think about.

Last season, for the Horned Frogs, Amric Fields averaged 9.6 points and 2.5 rebounds per game and was named Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year. So losing Fields is a big loss as he was apart of the starting lineup.

To replace the loss of Amric Fields will be senior wing Garlon Green, who averaged 9.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last season. Right now, with three games this season in the books, Green is leading the team in points and rebounds with 11.3 and 6.7.

The Horned Frogs next game will be on Sunday afternoon, when they play Prairie View A&M (SWAC).
