Rumors once turned into conversation about the University of North Carolina’s academic scandal. For over 20 years, the University has been lenient (to say the least) to athletes in the classroom. The investigation has been going on by the NCAA since 2010.
It is one of the biggest scandals in history, but why isn’t anything happening?
The NCAA has just completely ignored the whole situation and has allowed UNC to make the battle a stalemate. All of the information is out, all of the witnesses have spoken, but yet the NCAA has made any advancements in their investigation. Eventually, at this rate, all of the information is going to be completely worthless.
It isn’t so much the players at fault in this situation, but the academic faculty at Chapel Hill who are going to be taking the fault.
North Carolina has been allowed to interview their own people and search through their own evidence. The NCAA needs to stop allowing this and step up and advance in the investigation. Of course, if the University is interviewing their own people and searching their own evidence, it’s going to make them sound innocent.
The NCAA needs to send out people to Chapel Hill and do this on their own, I mean they do pay people to do these investigations.
People who are involved in the situation and know stuff about it have contacted the NCAA a while ago about the scandal. Has the NCAA done anything with the information? No. People are willing to talk about the NCAA about the investigation, but they just seem to continue to stall.
Do they want to let a school get away with this? Is it because they are such a storied program that they feel it will damage the sport if they punish the program? The NCAA is just going to continue to stall until everyone forgets about this.
A case that is almost equivalent to the Penn State case, might get away with no charges. This case, like Penn State’s scandal goes beyond the athletics of the school and into in this case the academic faculty. The NCAA was able to punish a storied program like Penn St, so why don’t they do the same to North Carolina?
Schools get punished for players receiving money from old coaches and friends. Why isn’t North Carolina being published for fixing students records so they can get into the school or giving them good grades so they can remain eligible?
Taking away wins from the program isn’t going to be an effective punishment. Kids cheating and having grades changed deserves a lot more then having wins taken away that didn’t even matter to them.
This doesn’t have to do with the current players and they don’t deserve to be punished, but the school needs to be punished and this scandal is on them not the students.
Academic fraud is something that needs to be taken seriously, a school should not be able to get away with this. The investigation continues, but it is taking way to long. In the end what is actually going to happen to North Carolina? Will they even be punished?
The NCAA has not handled this situation well and with people coming out and saying that they say this fraud first-hand, what other information do they need? On the record and credible sources of information is enough information for a decision to be made, but apparently it isn’t enough for the NCAA.
