Michigan Wolverines Nik Stauskas Receives Second Big Ten Award
Stuck behind Indiana University and Duke University, the number three Michigan Wolverines maintain a perfect 7-0 record. Part of the reason the Wolverines remain undefeated is the stepped up play of freshman Nik Stauskas.
For the second week in a row, Stauskas was awarded for his strong play. The Wolverines freshman received the Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award for the second straight week. Stauskas helped the undefeated Wolverines beat a previously ranked North Carolina State in part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Wolverines also beat Bradley University this past week in the Wolverines first true road game.
After strong performances in the NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament, Stauskas received his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week Award. This past week, Stauskas scored a career high 20 points against NC State. The Michigan freshman was then put in as a starter against Bradley. Against Bradley, Stauskas once again had a career high with 22 points, shooting 8-15 in 36 minutes played.
Stauskas is on an impressive streak that has seen him hit career highs in back to back games. The Wolverine has also scored in double digits in six straight games. Stauskas also has made at least one three point field goal in seven straight contests, representing every game he has played in this year.
On the season, Stauskas ranks third in points per game with 14.3 for the Wolverines. Stauskas also ranks fourth in minutes per game, but that is likely to change if Nik keeps getting starts. With 22 of 23 free throws made, Stauskas ranks first in the Big Ten with a free throw percentage of 95.7%.
