Kentucky Wildcats Continue to Fall Down the Rankings

The Kentucky Wildcats took another blow last week when they lost to the Baylor Bears at Kentucky, which snapped a 55-game home winning streak. As you may have guessed, the Wildcats are no longer the best team in the SEC. However, how much did Kentucky drop in the latest Week 4 SEC Power Rankings?

It is becoming more and more clear that the bottom of this conference is absolutely horrible. The Vanderbilt Commodores are looking worse and worse by the week and are entering unfamiliar territory by being one of the worst teams in the SEC.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are still looking great, despite their loss to a good Cincinnati Bearcats team in the SEC/Big East Challenge.

How about them Gators? The Florida Gators just got done whooping the Marquette Golden Eagles by 33 points. Marquette is no slouch this year, but that just shows the college basketball world how good Florida is.

The Missouri Tigers are climbing up the national rankings and are not too far behind Florida, which will make the matchup between the two teams that much better come January.

This conference may not be as deep as people thought it would be entering the season, but it still has some great teams at the top and people can’t really expect the Wildcats to stay this bad all season long. Not to mention, they have lost to three very good opponents.

Not a whole lot has changed this week in the power rankings, but why don’t you take a look for yourself.

Record: 3-5

The Mississippi State Bulldogs have the honor of being the worst team in the SEC for the fourth consecutive week. This team has looked terrible all season long and it may not get any better because the Bulldogs are showing no signs of improvement.

13. Auburn Tigers

Record: 2-5

After four losses in a row, the Auburn Tigers are making a case for being the worst team in the conference, but hey, at least Frankie Sullivan is in beast mode this year, averaging almost 20 points per game.

12. Vanderbilt Commodores

Record: 2-4

Vanderbilt can build some momentum by beating the Xavier Musketeers this week, but don’t count on it. Xavier only has one loss on the season, whereas the Commodores are losing to just about everybody.

After that game, Vanderbilt will get a break and should get a couple of wins in a row against cupcake competition.

11. Georgia Bulldogs

Record: 2-6

After playing great basketball in the Legends Classic, the Georgia Bulldogs haven’t been playing the best ball in the world, losing its last two games.

That could be because Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (17.4 PPG) is the only player scoring more than 10 points per game though.

10. South Carolina Gamecocks

Record: 5-3

The South Carolina Gamecocks started off the season hot, but after two losses in a row against good opponents, it is apparent that South Carolina was only winning because of easy competition.

I am not trying to bash the SEC here, like it may seem. The bottom teams in this conference are just that bad. However, if anyone can turn around a team it would be Frank Martin.

9. Texas A&M Aggies

Record: 6-1

The Texas A&M Aggies are continuing to beat easy competition. We really will not know how good this team will be this year until it takes on a tougher opponent, which won’t be for awhile. However, the Aggies have a great record so far this season, and they do have a lot of talent on this team.

8. LSU Tigers

Record: 5-0

The LSU Tigers still have a perfect record on the year and they are only one of three teams in the SEC to remain undefeated.

The Tigers just got their best win of the season so far, by beating the Seton Hall Pirates. Expect this team to continue its hot start.

7. Arkansas Razorbacks

Record: 4-3

The Arkansas Razorbacks have one more tough game against the Michigan Wolverines before they can take a little break.

Unfortunately, this game will be played in Michigan, but the Razorbacks did manage to play the Syracuse Orange tough a couple of games ago, so there may be a chance. However, B.J. Young has to play huge in this one.

6. Ole Miss Rebels

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

Record: 6-0

The Ole Miss Rebels are being led by Murphy Holloway and Marshall Henderson. Both of these players are averaging 16 or more points per game, and help make up one of the best scoring duos in the conference. It is no wonder why this team finds itself undefeated still.

5. Tennessee Volunteers

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Record: 4-3

The Tennessee Volunteers are not off to the start that they would have hoped for, but this team still has a very well-rounded and talented team. That alone makes them hard to count out just yet.

However, two losses in a row does not fair very well for this team.

4. Alabama Crimson Tide

Frank Victores-USA TODAY Sports

Record: 6-1

Alabama just barely lost to Cincinnati on the road by the score of 58-56. Although losses are never a good thing, this one doesn’t necessarily hurt the Crimson Tide, at least not yet.

Alabama looks to get back on track against the Dayton Flyers later on tonight.

3. Kentucky Wildcats

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Record: 5-3

Kentucky has so much talent on its team, but it has just been victim to three better teams than it this season. Once the young Wildcats learn how to play with one another, they will be back on pace for an SEC championship.

The Wildcats will get better and they will be ready to play the Louisville Cardinals on Dec. 29.

2. Missouri Tigers

Dak Dillon-USA TODAY Sports

Record: 7-1

Michael Dixon may no longer be on the team, but the Missouri Tigers are still talented enough to win the SEC and make a deep run in the NCAA tournament. Phil Pressey and the rest of this team are just going to have to be that much better this season without Dixon.

The Tigers will have a couple of easy games in a row before they take on the Illinois Fighting Illini, which should be a very intriguing matchup.

1. Florida Gators

florida
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Record: 7-0

The Florida Gators may not be beating ranked opponents, but it is still beating very good teams. I wouldn’t even call it beating though, considering that the Gators are literally killing team after team.

Florida is winning games on an average of 25 points per game.

The real test will come against the Arizona Wildcats on Dec. 15. Florida will be on the road, but if this team plays like it has been so far this season, it should come up with the victory at Arizona.
