As part of a very busy Saturday in college basketball, ten of the eleven Colonial Athletic Association men’s basketball teams will be in action today. Now, let’s take a look at some of these high-profile matchups.
Currently, the Towson Tigers are in the middle of a big matchup with No. 15 Georgetown in the nation’s capital at the Verizon Center. This game presents a huge opportunity for the Tigers and head coach Pat Skerry to grab a very impressive win to boost their RPI and national impression. The biggest storyline in this one is Towson’s Jerrelle Benimon, a junior transfer, who is playing his first game against his former school. At halftime, Benimon had 8 points and 9 rebounds. The two teams are currently battling late in the second half.
Next, five CAA teams will be in action starting at 2 o’clock. First, Devon Saddler (21.2 ppg) and Jamelle Hagins (12.6 ppg, 12.2 rpg) will lead the Delaware Blue Hens against in-state rival, Delaware State. The Hornets are currently 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The Georgia State Panthers will also play a home contest at 2PM. They will take on South Polytechnic and look for another large collective contribution from Devonta White, R.J. Hunter and Manny Atkins.
The rest of the 2PM slate features three CAA clubs on the road. Drexel, a struggling team that could really use a big game from Frantz Massenat and Damion Lee, will travel to Princeton. Next, Hofstra, a team struggling in their own right after losing four players to suspension, will play LIU Brooklyn on the road. Lastly, William & Mary, the surprise team in the conference, will travel to Radford to see if their Big 3 of Marcus Thornton, Tim Rusthoven and Brandon Britt can continue their early-season success.
At 6PM, the George Mason Patriots will play host Northern Iowa. The Patriots are currently 6-3 and first in the conference, and will look to defeat another conference leader. Keep your eyes on Sherrod Wright in this one, who’s been on a scoring tear as of a late.
To close out the day, there are two CAA teams in action in the 7PM slate. First, UNCW will try to continue to surround Keith Rendleman with solid performances from role players when they travel to Georgia Tech. Additionally, the Northeastern Huskies will try to avenge their loss to UMass earlier in the week when they welcome another A-10 La Salle to the historic Matthews Arena.
Enjoy the basketball everyone!
