Ole Miss started the season undefeated with a 6-0 record. The Rebels have finally been humbled after a 65 – 62 loss to the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders.

Anyone who has watched MTSU play throughout the season would have understood that this game would be much closer than most people expected; however, very few people would actually choose this upset. Although the win is great for MTSU, it benefits a team in the SEC far more.

The team that benefits the most from this upset: Alabama. The Crimson Tide no longer need to worry about Ole Miss in their race to the top of the Western SEC.

MTSU is a great team, one capable of a major upset or two in the NCAA tournament, but the Crimson Tide should feel fairly confident that they could defeat them easily. The Rebels, due to their undefeated start to the season, looked as if they might challenge the expected Alabama dominance of the western SEC – not anymore. The Crimson Tide should face the Rebels with confidence knowing that they should defeat Ole Miss easily.

Ole Miss will have a decent season, as will MTSU, but the Rebels need to get it together on defense and start rebounding harder because on the glass the Blue Raiders destroyed them. Ole Miss will not last in a strong SEC against physical teams like Arkansas and Tennessee once SEC play starts. The Rebels need motivation fast or this six game win streak might be their high-point of their entire season.
