Will Duke Lose This Season?

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

At this point, people have to be wondering if the Duke Blue Devils will lose at all this season. It may seem crazy, but with a much weaker ACC than most people thought coming into the season, there is a chance that Duke will run the table. However, with that said, expect this team to lose at least one game this year.

Duke has beaten three top five teams already this season, the Ohio State Buckeyes, Kentucky Wildcats and Louisville Cardinals. No big deal, these were only three out of the four teams in the Final Four last season. On top of that, the Blue Devils also beat a very good Minnesota team, along with the VCU Rams and Temple Owls.

As it stands, Duke only has to play two more ranked teams in the regular season, however, it will have to play those two teams twice each, and Duke will lose at least once out of those four times.

North Carolina State may be off to a disappointing start, but the Wolfpack have too much talent to stay down. This team made it all of the way to the Sweet 16 last season and it is even better this year. Just give this team time to play with one another and their expectations for the season will come back once again.

As for the North Carolina Tar Heels, it doesn’t matter how bad or good this team is because Duke and North Carolina have one of the best rivalries in all of sports. Whoever is the top ranked team out of these two teams goes out the door when these two powerhouses in college basketball meet up. No one expected Duke to beat North Carolina at Chapel Hill last season, but it did. Then after such a good performance in buzzer-beating fashion they got blown out at Cameron.

Also, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Miami and other teams in the ACC are off to great starts. Sure, the ACC may not look as good this season, just because Florida State, North Carolina and NC State are not off to the great starts everyone thought they would be, but this is still one of the best conferences in all of college basketball.

Duke is easily the best team in the conference right now and it is certainly talented enough to run the table, but it will also be getting everyone’s best performance from here on out. College basketball is a very long season and all it will take is Duke to go cold or an opposing team to heat up for the Blue Devils to lose.
