Purdue has not had a great start to the college basketball season. The team sits at 4-6, which is well below expectations. Now you can add injury to that insult. Jay Simpson, a promising freshman forward, will miss the rest of the year due to a foot injury.

This is a blow to a team that really does not need one right now. Simpson has shown some ability to score the rock and that is something not a lot of people on the team can say. He may not have been getting a ton of minutes, but he was showing some talent. However, the foot injury plus his ongoing battle with asthma kind of stacked the deck against him from day one.
We will see if he is granted a medical redshirt. He played in all ten games this year but the injury did occur before the season. He tried to play through it but he simply could not do it. That might be enough to sway them into granting him an extra year. Then again, we all know that no decision from the group ever makes sense.
This is a rough break for Simpson, who did everything he could to get ready for this year. Hopefully he can come back ready to play next year. The team is definitely going to need all the help that they can get.
