With anticipation for high school phenom Jabari Parker’s college decision reaching an all-time high, one of his biggest recruiters made a very strong push the day before the announcement, and their name doesn’t rhyme with pushkefby.
According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo’s last words to the Chicago Simeon star made a strong impact on him, and may have pushed the Spartans ahead of other front runner Duke in the pursuit of Parker.
“No matter what school you choose tomorrow, me and you will always have a relationship,” Izzo said, according to Parker’s high school coach, Robert Smith, who was at the meeting Wednesday with Parker, his family, and MSU assistant coach Dwayne Stephens.
“I dont even think he knows,” said Smith on his star’s decision. Smith also added that Izzo’s closing words were were “huge” for Parker, because they indicated that Izzo was interested in maintaining a personal relationship with not just Jabari, but the rest of the Parker family.
The 6-foot-8 wing is the number two ranked player in the class of 2013 according to ESPN, and despite nursing a sore foot that he broke last summer, has been one of the most highly sought after high school players in the nation for the past two years.
His decision will be announced on Thursday at 4:00 PM. Check back with Rant Sports for up to the moment coverage.
