UConn Women’s Coach Geno Auriemma’s Comments On Big East Are Hypocritical
The outspoken women’s basketball coach at the University of Connecticut is at it again, opening his mouth and saying something dumb. Geno Auiremma spoke out about the seven Catholic schools decision to leave the Big East Conference. Here is what he told the Hartford Current:
“They stayed at the table for as long as it took them to make as much money as they could. And once they saw all the money running out, they decided to go play somewhere else. Had some of them managed to vote appropriately over the last 10 years, we wouldn’t be in the situation we are now.”
Yes Geno, that was exactly their plan, to enter the Big East around 1979 and wait for the conference to expand with a bunch of football schools. They were so patient that they waited to see how high television contracts were going to get and even waited that out even longer. They had the foresight to wait for college football to explode and then plotted to get them into and out of the conference so they could make as much money as possible before leaving!
Is Auriemma that dumb or does he just want to make headlines?
This is the worst case of the pot calling the kettle black I have ever seen. How can Auriemma have the nerve to say these schools took the money and ran when it is all the football schools who are bailing on them? The seven Catholic schools are leaving, Geno, because they are doing what’s best for their respective schools and last time I checked, that’s exactly what the ‘football’ schools are doing to them.
Maybe Auriemma is mad because UConn is currently in the worst situation of all the teams in the Big East because he coaches at a school that’s being left out in the cold. UConn is not part of the group that is leaving the conference and no conference wants their football program so it appears as though UConn is stuck.
The reality is Geno Auriemma can’t help himself, he’s always got something to say and I’m sick of hearing him talk. Auriemma has no right to cry over the Catholic schools leaving because they were left with no choice but to leave.
Perhaps Auriemma is mad becaused he’s losing a bunch of weak teams he picks on in the Big East Conference and the wins maybe a little harder to come by?
Maybe Auriemma has too much time on his hands coaching in the kiddie pool instead of coaching in the big boy league? Until he does that please allow me to tell him that no one cares about his opinions.
