Butler Should Be Worried About Vanderbilt

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

The Butler Bulldogs are consistently a Cinderella team in the NCAA tournament. Rarely do they have big name signees and first round NBA picks; however, it is almost impossible not to love this team that seems to defeat unbeatable programs at crucial times in the season. Butler has had an amazing start to the season, but the Bulldogs have one major flaw: the Bulldogs may be a giant killer, but tend to lose to teams that it should beat.

Vanderbilt, after a tough loss to the MTSU Blue Raiders, will be looking for some momentum going into SEC play. The Commodores, although 5-5, are a dangerous team – just ask Xavier. The Musketeers are one of the best teams in the A-10 and lost in overtime to Vanderbilt. Did I mention that Xavier absolutely dismantled the Bulldogs, winning by 15 points? Butler lost to Xavier, which lost to Vanderbilt. Let that sink in. Butler should be very scared, because this Vanderbilt team is more than capable of pulling off the upset and most likely will.

Vanderbilt lost all its starters to graduation and the draft last year; Kevin Stallings does not have much to work with. However, Stallings’s young team is talented and capable of winning big games. The Commodores are not headed to the big dance or even headed to the NIT, but they are still very dangerous.  The Bulldogs have defeated the number one team in the country and are finally ranked. This is the kind of game the Commodores can win. And do not forget: this game is at Memorial, one of the toughest venues to play at in the SEC.
