Florida Still the Best Team in the SEC

The Florida Gators have two losses. The Missouri Tigers have just one. Florida lost to no. 5 Arizona and unranked Kansas State, but Missouri lost to no. 2 Louisville. The Gators are ranked no. 11 in the nation and the Tigers are ranked No. 7.  Most people who look at these teams on paper would assume that Missouri was the better team; this is not the case.

Florida’s losses were both tough. The Gators had both Kansas State and Arizona beaten just to lose focus at the end. Florida is running into the same problem that they did last year: late in games some players stop working. Last year it was Patric Young; this year it is Kenny Boynton and Mike Rosario. These are some of the best players in the country and Florida cannot win without their contributions.

Billy Donovan is a better coach than Frank Haith. Not to take anything away from Haith, who is a great coach, but Donovan is one of the best coaches in the country. His team is consistently one of the best teams in the country. His back to back national championships are a testament to his foresight into the future of his Gators teams.

Phil Pressey for the Tigers is one of the best players in the SEC; there is no doubt about that. Missouri has one of the best offenses in the country. Florida, however, has the best all around team in the SEC and, in March, all around ability beats offensive talent every time. Florida is a better team than Missouri, but we will have to wait until January 19 to find out.
