College Basketball Road Warriors Shine on Wednesday Night

Traditionally it’s tough to win on the road in conference play.  Don’t tell that to the multiple teams that did so today.  It was a crazy Wednesday across the country.

Rutgers 58, St. John’s 56 — Both of these teams are hard to get a grasp on although Rutgers has been the better team this season.  Still it’s hard to believe they went on the road to win this game.  The Scarlet Knights got just eight points from Carter on a woeful 3-of-14 shooting.  Still, they got just enough to come out on top of this one.

Butler 72, St. Joe’s 66 — The Bulldogs knew it was going to be tough once they got to A-10 play.  The Hawks got out to a quick lead in the 1st half, but much like they are prone to do, they let Butler back in the game and lost it in the end.  Rotnei Clarke and Chris Wilson had a fun first half going back and forth, but Clarke in the end got the better of this one.

Evansville 62, Northern Iowa 59 — UNI is now 8-8 and has lost five of their last seven games.  Anthony James and the boys are way better then they’ve been playing.  Give credit to Colt Ryan and the aces in this one. They move to 10-6 after beating the Panthers. Ryan had 21 in the win.

Florida State 65, Maryland 62 — The time for feasting on the lower teams is over for the Terrapins and it showed in this one.  Maryland blew a nine point halftime lead and had trouble finding the right combinations at the end of the game.  Okaro White had 20 points for FSU who is now 10-5 on the year.  The Terps are in trouble if this is how they will play against teams with a pulse.

Boston College 86, Virginia Tech 75 — The Eagles are not expected to be that good in the ACC.  The Hokies have slowed down greatly since their hot start to the season.  Put Ryan Anderson on your radar because this kid is going to be good and is putting up good numbers. BC will beat another ACC opponent this year especially in sleepy Chestnut Hill.

Villanova 61, South Florida 53 — Rough week for USF after losing a close one to Syracuse at home.  Villanova’s a talented bunch and has now won seven straight.  Mouphtaou Yarou scored 16 points adding 13 rebounds as the Wildcats held the Bulls to 36 percent shooting.  Maybe that steady diet of cupcakes that Nova feasted on helped them get confidence.

Eastern Kentucky 77, Murray State 65 — The Racers better be careful because their chances at an at-large bid are shrinking.  A conference championship won’t be easy with EKU and Belmont in their way.  Isiah Canaan had 24 points in the loss while Mike DiNunno had 20 points for the winners.  EKU may be the 2nd best team in the OVC.
