High Ankle Sprain to Sideline Florida’s Mike Rosario vs. LSU

Kim Klement-USA Today Sports

Florida will hit the road on Saturday afternoon, heading to LSU for a 4:00pm (EST) tip.

However, just prior to the game, the Gators’ announced that guard Mike Rosario would be a no-go for Florida on Saturday after suffering a high ankle sprain in Wednesday’s victory over Georgia.

In the win earlier this week, Rosario was the team’s leading scorer, finishing the contest with 19 points.

Health issues have been a problem for the Gators thus far this season and fellow senior Erik Murphy has been among the notable names in that regard. Despite a rib injury however, Murphy played on Wednesday and was highly productive in only 18 minutes of action. The 6-foot-10 forward is expected to suit up against the Tigers on Saturday, although Rosario will not.

On the season, Rosario is the Gators’ second-leading scorer, averaging 12.3 points per game. A consistent 3-point shooter when he is on, the news of Rosario’s injury is a sigh of relief for LSU and head coach Johnny Jones. Any help that the Tigers can get alongside the home court advantage that they will feature on Saturday afternoon, the better.

At 9-3 on the season, the Tigers will be looking for a statement win with a banged up Florida lineup in town. A number of middle-of-the-pack SEC squads are looking for early victories with the conference schedule now kicking into full force.

Florida, on the other hand, will be looking to avoid a road upset and pick up their fourth consecutive victory. The Gators have not lost since Dec. 22.
