Can Bill Self Win Another Title?

Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

Very quietly this season, Bill Self and his Kansas Jayhawks are sniffing around the top five in college basketball. Currently, the Jayhawks are ranked in the top five and are getting some first-place consideration. With just one loss, it is hard to argue with the level of respect given to this program. Their only loss this season came to the Michigan State Spartans.

But does that tell the whole story with the Jayhawks? Currently, the only other team in the Big 12 ranked in the top 25 is the in-state rival Kansas State Wildcats. Other than that, the Big 12 doesn’t seem to present too much of a challenge. Kansas should end the season quite strong and receive a high seed in the NCAA Tournament. Depending on how their seeded, the Jayhawks could crawl their way to a National Title.

Bill Self left the University of Illinois with the idea of winning a National Title in Lawrence. He did that, and how wants to get another shot at the title. Considering the amount of talent up-and-down his roster, he may enter the tournament fresher than some of the other teams based on an easier path to a top seed. If his squad stays healthy, there could be another championship on Self’s resume soon.

While it’s early and plenty of things can change, there’s a good chance that the Jayhawks run the table and enter as the overall top seed, and Self will continue to build his legend in Lawrence. That’s quite an accomplishment.
