Syracuse is having a pretty solid year, as they started 16-1 with a matchup with the also 16-1 Louisville. There’s no doubt Syracuse is going to the “big dance”, but how far are they going to go? Who will be the player to take them there? In my opinion, CJ Fair has to be that guy for Syracuse. The 6’8 junior swing forward is having a pretty nice year averaging 13 points, 7 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block a game, but if Syracuse wants to make a run at a national title game- he’s going to have to step his game up even more.
What I like about Fair is his ability to score in the paint, and is capable of stepping out and hitting a long jumper. He’s a guy that’s continually improving on defense and it’s going to be important for him to use his experience and be that guy the team can turn too at all times. ‘Cuse is going to need this guy to stay healthy and if he does stay healthy – look out, everyone.
In terms of his draft stock? I think this could be the year he comes out and ends up being a lottery pick. He’s athletic and frankly, there’s still a ton of growth left in his game to get the job done from that aspect.
Look, I’m not the biggest Syracuse fan in the world, but this is a VERY good squad more than capable of winning a title this year – if CJ Fair can lead them, of course.
