If there’s one team that could ruin everything we think is going to play out in the ACC, it’s going to be the Miami Hurricanes. Kept quiet but now no longer able to hide, Miami has had an amazing basketball season so far and it has carried over into conference play.
Part of what makes Miami so much more improved over previous years is that they now have dynamic personnel on the team. They no longer have to force-feed a big man down low, or rely on a streaky shooter to drop 30 points every night. This year’s personnel is much more guard-oriented, and is able to play offense and defense in a variety of ways.
Super sophomore guard Shane Larkin from Orlando, Florida is one of the more impressive guards in the ACC. His quickness gives him the ability to get into the lane and cause a ton of confusion on the opposing defense. He makes great decisions on plays, knows when to pass and also has a more than capable floater. They’re a team that straps up on defense and is really able to get after the basketball.
I project that Miami could finish easily in the top 5 of the ACC, possibly as high as 2nd or 3rd. They should have a comfortable spot in this year’s NCAA Tournament and they will hope to land in a psot where they can do some damage. With Shane Larkin at the helm and plenty of weapons to play with, the folks down in Coral Gables are feeling pretty good about their basketball team right now.
