Jamie Rhodes - US Presswire

It is that time of year in the season that we begin asking questions about what team is the most surprising team so far, what team will be cutting down the nets this year, who is the best player in the nation and etc. In only a few weeks these answers will be revealed. We can see the teams that look ready for a run to the National Championship and the teams that we know don't have a chance to wear a National Championship t-shirt.

We start seeding the teams already and seeing who will get the number one seeds and then we compare them to the last year number ones. Fans everywhere expect their team to win it all every year and are so disappointing if they don't. So we will ask the question, who are the 10 most disappointing teams so far this season? There have been some very disappointing teams this season in every conference. We will examine the ten teams by looking at their season as a whole, their wins and losses, and we will compare them to how they were at this point last year. We will take into consideration those teams who lost players and if they have a new coach.

Before we look at the top 10 teams here are some honorable mention ones: Oregon State, Stanford and Washington State. Now sit back, shut off the TV, grab a beverage of your choice and call all of your friends over as we countdown to the number one disappointing team this season. Drum roll please …… Here we go.

North Texas

basketball
Andrew Fields - US Presswire

North Texas Mean Green has been something more than mean this season. Even if Tony Mitchell is to be consider a top pick in the NBA draft it hasn't helped the Mean Green this season. Mitchell was planning on leaving a legacy here but the only thing this team will be remember by is their lack of effort and how they are underachieving.

They are 7-12 overall this season, 2-6 in conference and were expected to win the Sun Belt conference this year. Some of their losses have been one sided like the loss to Creighton in their first game of the season. They even loss to the Division II Alabama-Huntsville which they had to think about for awhile. They have been very disappointing on offense and defense and Mitchell in the last few games have played like he doesn't want to leave a legacy.

Old Dominion

basketball
Geoff Burke - US Presswire

Old Dominion Monarchs are so disappointing this season. It seems like since they are ineligible for the CAA tournament because they are leaving for C-USA next season have performed like a team that has nothing to play for. They have only won 2 games so far this season and one of those were against Virginia at a neutral court. It looks like to me that they have already moved on.

UCLA

basketball
Kirby Lee - US Presswire

UCLA has looked great at time and lousy at time this season. After not making it to the NCAA tourney the past three years the Bruins are being pressured to win this season. They have a great coach who recruited and signed great players this year to move them back in the winning direction. So far we haven't seen this happen. They were ranked in the top 10 at one point and now are ranked 24 in the nation.

They have even had two players transfer this year and now have only 8 scholarship players. The best thing going for them so far is that they are undefeated in the Pac-12. Look for them to end up off this list at the end of the season.

NEVADA

basketball
Jake Roth - US Presswire

Nevada needs some help in the interior from someone besides Deonte Burton and Malik Story or it is going to be a rough year in the Mountain West this year. The Wolf pack is underachieving this season as everyone else is either meeting expectations are playing horrible.

They are last in the conference and they rank 190th in field goal percentage. It is always hard to begin a new conference and the Wolf pack are disappointing their fans and each other with how they have been playing.

TEXAS

basketball
Kevin Jairaj - US Presswire

Texas, well words cannot express how disappointing this team has been this season. Texas has lost to USC, West Virginia at home and even Division II Chaminade at the Maui Invitational. They look like a team that's on the rebuilding stage and are a very young team who are beaten down right now. They are the most disappointing team in the Big 12 this season. They have a long way to go and if they can stay close to Kansas it will give them some encouragement. The bright spot for them is that they are a young team and Rick Barnes knows how to coach them to be mature players who are confident and consistent.

WEST VIRGINIA

basketball
Reese Strickland - US Presswire

The West Virginia Mountaineers have been a very disappointing team in the Big 12 this season. They entered this season with great confidence that they would make a big impact in conference play. Their two losses to Oklahoma have been very discouraging for Bob Huggins. They might have lost their greatest player from last seasons squad but their transfers haven't stepped up to the plate as they hoped for. They are shooting up lame ducks behind the arc and opposing teams are letting them shoot the tri-factor. The bright side is that you can never count on a Huggins coached team but they have a mountain to climb up in the Big 12.

FLORIDA STATE

basketball
Bob Donnan - US Presswire

There are not many smiles on the faces of the Florida State Seminoles this season. This is a totally different team than last years team but they had high expectations coming into the season. They were ACC champs last year and made it to the second round of the NCAA tourney.

Even though they are 10-6 overall, they have had some very disappointing losses. They lost to Mercer at home and Auburn on the road. This team appears to be one of the best offensive minded teams under the Leonard Hamilton era but they haven't proved that this season so far. There is a lack of consistent effort and youthful mistakes on rotations that have hurt them especially in their losses at home.

NORTH CAROLINA

basketball
Bob Donnan - US Presswire

North Carolina has multiple problems this season. First of all, they are not scaring anyone this year and no one is running away from them. They were very unimpressive in non-conference play especially with a loss to Texas by double digits. In each of their losses they weren't even competitive and lacked a winning attitude. This past weekend they barely lost at Florida State and now they get to climb even higher on the mountain in the ACC. The one thing they are missing is consistency and even depth is an issue this year.

DREXEL

basketball
Howard Smith - US Presswire

The Drexel Dragons returned nearly all their key pieces from last year's 25-win team that should have got its ticket punched to the big dance. They came in looking like this was the year that they would break their drought of making it to the NCAA tourney. They had a very dismal start out of the gates and even in conference play they are stumbling. Many believed they would be dangerous this season and especially in the dance but it looks like they couldn't hurt a flea.

The biggest weakness this season was their biggest strength last year, defense. They are lacking on defense this year and letting opposing teams get easy baskets. They are also struggling to crash the boards and get turnovers. This team has really turnover it's shell this season. The Dragons have lost their fire and need it back.

KENTUCKY

basketball
Mark Zerof - US Presswire

The number one most disappointing team this season is last year's National Champions, the Kentucky Wildcats. Even though the Wildcats lost about every player who got a National Championship cap, the Champions always have higher expectations than any other team. Yes they are 11-5 overall and 2-1 in conference but they are not in the top 25 and have a lot of work to do to even think about winning it all this year. Many believed since John Calipari singed some great players that they would be cutting down the nets again.

They have a very young and inexperienced team that has had its pitfalls with losses to Baylor and Texas A&M at home. Some have labeled them as a little disappointing but I believe they are very disappointing this season. The point guard play will be a season long issue which needs more consistent play. They need to grow up fast to be able to make a dent in the SEC and the tourney this season.

So there are the Top 10 most disappointing teams so far this season. Some of you may agree with me and some may disagree but that is how I'm calling it.
