Michael Snaer found out the bank is open late in Tallahassee, Florida.
The senior delivered one of the biggest highlights the ACC will see this season with his buzzer beater game winning three-pointer. The incredible shot (and very grateful backboard) gave the Florida State Seminoles a 60-57 victory over the Clemson Tigers, but more importantly, it helped snap Florida State’s two game losing streak.
The ACC is wide open this season, however, a three-game losing streak would have been devastating given the Seminoles next three opponents. They’ll visit their heated rivals the Miami(FL) Hurricanes on Jan. 27, then return home to face the Maryland Terrapins on Jan. 30, followed by the Duke Blue Devils on Feb. 2. Entering tonight’s contest, Florida State (now 3-2 in conference play) was chasing all three schools in the conference standings.
Given the recent embarrassing 56-36 defeat by the Virginia Cavaliers, and the Seminoles upcoming schedule, the victory against Clemson was crucial in order to keep the team’s head above water. The Hurricanes are looking like the conference’s best team at the moment, while the Blue Devils are still ranked like the ACC’s best.
Meanwhile, the Seminoles defeated Maryland 65-62 on the Terrapins’ home court Jan. 9, which only means Mark Turgeon’s squad will be hungry to avenge the loss. Although, the odds might be in Florida State’s favor considering they showed they can beat the same team twice after knocking off Clemson in two of its past five games. They also defeated Maryland last season in their only meeting, where Snaer finished with 19 points.
Florida State will need a lot more from Snaer than they’ve received recently from the talented guard. He entered the game against the Tigers averaging 14.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. However, he finished with only 11 points, but did manage to shoot 50 percent from the field to go along with four assists and three rebounds. However, his combined 18 points in the Seminoles two previous losses isn’t going to cut it if the team has any chance of defending their ACC Tournament Title.
The buzzer-beater could be just what the senior needs to bounce back and return to playing at the level he’s capable of. If Snaer can return to being a top five scorer in the conference, then Florida State will continue to prove the ACC is wide open.
