So by now it’s no longer a secret that the Miami Hurricanes are for real.  They’ve beaten great teams and they’ve looked good doing it.  There’s a new type of buzz going around in Coral Gables and the rest of the nation is starting to feel it.  The one thing that jumps out with this team is the confidence they play with.  The players on this current ball club have a certain pizzazz about them when they play the game.  They’re mentally tough to make it through tough stretches of a game, and they’ve got enough guts to step up in the big moments.

I’m a firm believer that a college basketball team can only go as far as their point guard, and I’m as impressed with super sophomore guard Shane Larkin as I am with anyone in the country.  I had the opportunity to watch him a bit in high school, where he played in the Orlando area.  There was a guy by the name of Austin Rivers also playing in the city at that time, and Larkin caught my attention with his ability to attack Rivers despite being the much smaller player.  He’s brought this same leadership and swagger to Miami, and his team is reaping the benefits.

Can the Canes, who are currently rolling and sitting atop the conference standings, hold out to win the ACC? Something tells me that if Ryan Kelly of Duke can come back healthy, then there’s no one who can stop the Blue Devils when it all comes down to it.  But I would not count the Hurricanes out just yet.
