At one point in time, there was no way you would bet your paycheck on North Carolina State winning a game against North Carolina.

The Tar Heels have always been a team to beat in the Atlantic Coast Conference, but lately, they are just a beaten team.

The Wolfpack owned Saturday night, rolling to a 91-83 win that ended a 13-game losing streak to the Tar Heels.

It’s a big deal for the Wolfpack, who are trying to prove they are the best team in the ACC this year.

The importance of the win was not lost on N.C. State head coach Mark Gottfried.

“Our program’s lost a lot of games to North Carolina – they’ve been great, you’ve got to give them credit,” Gottfried said in a post-game press conference. “They are good and have been good. We’re trying to get good. We’re trying to climb up the mountain, and at some point, you’ve got to turn it a little bit and this is a start.”

It’s hard to argue with Gottfried. Beating North Carolina is huge for the Wolfpack, even if the Tar Heels aren’t having a typical year.

Lorenzo Brown helped the Wolfpack nail down the big win by pouring in 20 points and dishing out 11 assists.

T.J. Warren did his share of damage as well, clicking for 19 points.

N.C. State has now beaten Duke and North Carolina in the same season. It doesn’t mean the Wolfpack is a lock to win the conference championship, but it does mean it is headed in the right direction.
