You may not recognize the name O.D. Anosike unless your a frequent follower of college basketball or the MAAC in general. However, the Siena Saints’ star forward had a monster game on Sunday afternoon that deserves a little credit.
As part of a 79-75 road victory at Marist, Anosike went off for a 20-20 performance, albeit the win only moved the Saints to 5-16 overall and 3-7 within the conference.
Anosike is certainly amongst one of the better players within the MAAC, but the 6-foot-8 forward can also be labeled among the more unheralded players in all of college basketball. On Sunday afternoon, Anosike scored 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, but the monster stat as part of yet another double-double was his 21 total rebounds.
Anosike secured 21 of his team’s 33 boards in the victory, despite the Saints being out-rebounded by one. On the season, Anoskie is averaging a double-double in both points and rebounds, a stat-stuffer with all the intangibles to one day play at the next level. His under-the-radar statistics are one of the few bright spots that the Saints have had to smile at this season, since the days of NCAA Tournament glory have faded rather quickly.
Through 21 games this season, Anosike has notched 14 double-doubles, becoming a regular at the rim no matter who the Saints may be playing. Believe it or not, his 21 total rebounds on Sunday afternoon was not even the first time this season he has reached the 20+ plateau. It is however, a season-high that broke a 20-rebound night against Maine earlier in the year.
Siena will have the week off before jumping back into the thick of things against Manhattan on Friday.
