Facing a must-win situation and needing a win to rebound within the Big East Conference, the Cardinals were hoping to be at full strength, but following earlier news on Monday, that will not be the case.
Louisville sophomores Kevin Ware and Wayne Blackshear will both be held out from the contest on Monday.
Blackshear, who starts for the Cardinals and is averaging 9.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game this season, is expected to be out for a “short amount of time,” according to various reports. Blackshear has started 19 of 20 games for Louisville this season, but the 6-foot-5 wing sprained his right shoulder in practice on Sunday and is not healthy enough to play.
As for Ware, the 6-foot-2 sophomore guard will not play because of a suspension for an unspecified reason. On the season, Ware is averaging 3.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
It was not too long ago when the Cardinals held the nation’s No. 1 overall ranking, but three consecutive losses have dipped Louisville down to No. 12 this week in the AP Poll. A pair of home games this week mark must-win situations if the Cardinals hope to climb back within the thick of things in the conference, especially considering the harsh reality that the road became for Louisville just last week.
Louisville and Pittsburgh will tip-off at 7:00pm (EST) on Monday night.
