Shamarr Bowden Gives ECU Bad Name After Punching UTEP Player (Video)
ECU’s Shamarr Bowden will face a one game suspension after throwing punches at UTEP’S Konner Tucker. The video has gone viral and Bowden has let the rest of the conference, and the entire NCAA community know that he is not a man to be taken lightly.
Check it out.
Let’s analyze this series of events. Bowden and Tucker got tangled in the paint resulting in a tussle on the floor. The Pirate’s senior guard lost his temper and threw a right handed blow that was followed by a left handed strike to the forehead of Tucker.
The final product was an ejection from the contest, a loss to a conference opponent and a one-game suspension.
Was it worth it, to punch a man on the ground, all while one of your teammates is straddling the top of your head and hanging from the rim simultaneously?
Apparently, Bowden didn’t think so. He made a point to send an apology on twitter shortly after the game.
All jokes aside, this isn’t the kind of attitude that ECU head coach Jeff Lebo wants in his locker room. Though it was an isolated incident, the scuffle put the Pirates in the national spotlight, for all the wrong reasons.
This East Carolina team has finally put the pieces in place to compete in the NCAA. At 12-7, Lebo’s team can still make a late season run with the remainder of their games falling within C-USA. Heck, this is the same squad that lost to North Carolina by only six points. Basketball is becoming relevant in Greenville, and the Pirates can’t let a little punch define the character of their team.
The media (including myself) like to take incidents like this and blow them out of proportion. I expect Bowden to come back and produce like he has all season. I highly doubt we will be mentioning his name again unless it is in a positive light.
