The Miami (FL) Hurricanes have become the topic of discussion atop the ACC recently and deservedly so, but another team is lurking in the shadows within the league’s best with a prime opportunity to gain some attention themselves.
At 14-5 overall, the Cavaliers are quietly lurking in a third-place in the ACC at 4-2 within the conference. Tuesday night’s home game against the Wolfpack has the potential to move Virginia up the league standings even more.
The Cavaliers best non-conference win came against Wisconsin and an eyebrow-raising loss to a 2-17 Old Dominion squad is something that could prove costly come tournament time, but Virginia remains focused on what lies ahead. A three-game winning streak within the conference will be put on the line on Tuesday night, so they know what’s at stake.
A Virginia win could cause even more parody atop the ACC, but for N.C. State, a road win holds equal importance, especially with the undefeated success of Miami thus far. In fact, the Wolfpack and Hurricanes will square off this weekend, so there has not been a more important week for N.C. State this season than the one staring them in the face as of Jan. 28.
Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell lead the way for the Cavaliers, but the two could have their hands full with a loaded, Wolfpack roster. Tuesday’s outcome undoubtedly hold big implications for the upper half of the ACC standings with February right around the corner.
