The Oklahoma Sooners Are For Real; Just Ask Baylor and Their Young Fan

Second place in the Big 12 was on the line tonight as the Oklahoma Sooners traveled to Waco, TX to play the Baylor Bears.   Winning on the road is so important in the Big 12 especially if it is for a tie for second place. The Sooners came to play and two players were very impressive in this victory. Both Amath M’Baye and Steven Pledger was the top scorers for the Sooners and played with passion as they held on to win.

Oklahoma made a case tonight that they are for real and one of the better teams in the league.  Coach Lon Kruger has been pushing this team to play aggressive and hard every game. This might not be the talented team but they play with heart and passion. Tonight was no different, they fought all the way to the final buzzer. They handle the pressure from being on the road in front of a hostile crowd and play with an emotion. It is time the Big 12 and the nation take Oklahoma for real and to wake up and realize that this team is finally coming together.

Even when Baylor came back after being down by 16 and cut the deficient to one, the Sooners didn’t waver. Their attacking defense has finally showed its true colors. Baylor tried everything to not lose at home. At one point during the game a young child who is a Bear fan ran on the court and play had to be stopped. I guess he was either really excited to be there or he wanted to somehow get his beloved Bears back into the game.

One of the only weaknesses for the Sooners tonight was their rebounding which has been a thorn in their side most of the season. The Bears grabbed 24 offensive rebounds compared to the Sooners five. The best ting that went for the Sooners tonight was their determination to play hard, passionate, and with confidence. They executed well, moved the ball pretty well and battled all night. The Sooners timing was great and they played with some rhythm on both sides of the ball.

After watching tonight’s game you can see that this Oklahoma team is ready for anyone and they will have the chance to beat another ranked team when the Wildcats of Kansas State come to town. They only lost to them by 9 the last time they played and this game will be won in the trenches. Look for Oklahoma to pull another upset to position themselves where they want to be in the Big 12, right below Kansas.
