Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo is Proving His Worth Once Again
Don’t look now but Tom Izzo’s got another good basketball team. Shocking right? If I had to start a program from scratch, I’d want Izzo as my head coach. All he does is win. Flying a bit under the radar this season after the likes of Indiana and Michigan, Michigan State is having a pretty good year. At 18-4 overall, Izzo’s team is in good position to earn a respectable seed in this year’s NCAA tournament, and go on another one of their spectacular runs.
The thing I like about this Michigan State team is that although they have some great wins this season, they have no bad losses. When evaluating a team, I’m normally drawn first to their losses. I want to see who they lost to, when, and how the game was played. In Michigan State’s case, their losses are all very explainable and understandable. With this, I look for the Spartans to be a surprise team going forward.
The game’s Tom Izzo and company are supposed to win, they win. The rare game in which they are over-matched, they may lose but do so having given maximum effort and energy. This is what makes Tom Izzo the caliber of coach that he is because he has an ability to get consistency out of his players each and every night. As MSU enters the second go around of the Big Ten schedule, look for Michigan State to take down some more quality teams and position themselves among those in contention for another Sweet 16 berth.
