It was upset city tonight in Saint Louis win Butler came to town to play the Saint Louis Billikens. This was the biggest upset for Saint Louis in nine years. Butler is the highest ranked opponent to visit Chaifetz Arena. This is a great victory for the Billikens that will help them move up in the Atlantic-10 conference standings. This is the same team that got blown away earlier this season by Kansas and who lost to the Rhode Island Rams by one in overtime.
This game was all about the turnovers that Butler loss, 23 to be exact. The defensive pressure of the Billikens took over the game and caused Butler into so many turnovers. Their aggressive and overplaying defense forced a rash of mistakes on the part of Butler.
Tonight they came to play and had their focus in the right place. Not only did Saint Louis play an aggressive defense they also executed great on offense. They led most of the game thanks in part to Dwayne Evans who was very consistent on his shot selection and who crashed the boards and to Jordair Jett who kept the upset alive. Jett was terrific tonight, matching his career best in scoring. He took the team on his shoulders from tip off to the final buzzer playing hard and willing his team to a win.
Not only did the Billikens execute on offense but had an overall great performance by crashing the boards, scrapping for the 50-50 balls, driving to the rim and played with passion. It is always great to win at home especially if your fans storm the court after the game with a upset like this. This win will captivate them to the top of the Atlantic-10, and hopefully a ticket to the Big Dance.
