Michigan Wolverines vs. Indiana Hoosiers: A Game Worth Watching

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

At this time of year, there are not many college basketball games that will force me to sit down and watch. Saturday night will bring one of those games, as the top-ranked Michigan Wolverines visit the No. 3 ranked Indiana Hoosiers. I love seeing two teams in the top three get together at any point of the season but this one is extremely important in the Big Ten Conference along with looking ahead to the NCAA Tournament next month.

Michigan hasn’t started 20-1 ever in the school’s history even during the times of the Fab Five, which surprised me some when I read it the first time. Indiana has completely turned things around since Tom Crean took over in Bloomington. The Hoosiers are now very difficult to beat at home and Michigan may very well find that out in this game. I really believe that this game comes down to which team’s superstar steps up the most between Michigan’s Trey Burke and Indiana’s Cody Zeller. The player who controls this game the most will lead their team to victory.

This is a weekend for predictions with Super Bowl XLVII on Sunday, and especially since Crean’s wife Joani is the sister of the Harbaugh brothers, I’m going to try to predict who wins this game. I think Michigan is going to have to a hard time with the crowd noise and just the atmosphere inside of Assembly Hall, but I think the Wolverines are going to squeak this one out 58-54. Indiana is going to make a deep run into the NCAA Tournament just like Michigan will and I expect we will see these two teams meet a couple more times before this season ends.
