Syracuse Freshman Jerami Grant Volleyball Spikes Notre Dame Shot Attempt (Video)

On Monday night, the Syracuse Orange returned home to the Carrier Dome looking to snap a two-game losing skid within the Big East Conference.

Well, the Orange took care of business behind a stellar defensive performance, limiting Notre Dame to only 47 points in the victory. Speaking of defense, the highlight of the game may certainly have come on that end of the floor when Syracuse freshman Jerami Grant swatted a shot attempt off the hands of Jack Cooley.

Going to work on Rakeem Christmas was hard enough for Cooley who appeared to be looking to draw contact or shot over the Syracuse sophomore. Cooley did indeed get the attempt off, but it didn’t have much of a chance to go in thanks to the defensive rotation of Grant.

Grant came in from behind and legitimately volleyball spiked Cooley’s shot attempt, sending the basketball out of bound with authority.

In addition to his terrific defense, Grant also scored a career-high 14 points for the Orange on Monday night, helping Syracuse move to 19-3 overall on the season. In this his freshman campaign, Grant is not known as a prolific scorer, averaging just 5.0 points in roughly 16 minutes of action entering Monday’s contest, but the forward clearly provides another defensive weapon that can be utilized within head coach Jim Boeheim‘s infamous 2-3 zone.

Grant and the Orange will look for back-to-back victories this upcoming weekend as St. John’s play a visit to the Carrier Dome. For the time being, Syracuse currently holds the top spot in the Big East standings.
