Temple Holds Off Charging Charlotte

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

One of the most confounding teams in the country, Temple, picked up a one point win at home over Charlotte on Wednesday night 89-88. The same team that beat Syracuse and lost to Canisius nearly fell at home in this one.  With the win, the Owls moved to 15-7 while the 49ers fell to 17-5. This result further clumps up the Atlantic 10 where 11 teams are within two games of each other. Go figure who is going to take control.

These two teams were tied at 41 at halftime with the Owls racing out to a quick lead in the second half. Temple held off Charlotte at the end despite multiple turnovers when the 49ers pressed. Khalif Wyatt led the way with 25 points while Jake O’Brien chipped in with 22 for the victors. Charlotte was led by Chris Braswell with 23 while Pierria Henry added 14.

What does this result mean for both teams? Let’s start with the losers who are still looking for a quality win this season. Their best win is at Davidson,¬† with number-two being La Salle at home. They have VCU up next on Saturday, followed by road trips to Butler and St. Louis and a rematch with the Owls. Temple needed that win considering they have tough road trips to Dayton and UMass coming up. The Owls have an interesting profile with wins over Syracuse and St. Louis. They also have terrible losses to Canisius and St. Bonaventure with a close defeat at the hands of St. Joseph’s as well.

It’s hard to figure out the Atlantic 10, because anything is possible.
