Illinois Fighting Illini Keep Tournament Hopes Alive By Shocking Indiana Hoosiers
It has been one heck of a year in college basketball and it is only going to get better. On Thursday, the Indiana Hoosiers looked like they were going to blow out the Illinois Fighting Illini. However, the game is not over until the clock reads zero. Illinois made a furious rally and ended up winning on a Tyler Griffey layup as time expired.
Trust me, this was a huge choke. The Hoosiers had the game won. They had a double digit lead with just a shade over six minutes left. They then spent the rest of the game letting the Illini make a furious comeback. I mean, they tried repeatedly to blow the game. In fact, they did not even get a shot on their last possession.
On the final play of the game, it was a simple breakdown that led to defeat. Future lottery pick Cody Zeller was just lost on the play and he let Griffey sneak by him for a layup. That is something that you rarely seen in high school ball, much less from one of the best players in college basketball. You know he is going to be thinking about this play for the rest of the night.
So next week we will have a new number one in basketball. It is has been a curse to be the best team in basketball this year, which means the tournament should be fun. You never know what team is going to come up with a big win on any given night.
